First parts of the line 1 (green line) were put into operation in 1869. Only in the years 1997 and 2000 line 2 (red line) and line 3 (blue line) were added. In connection with the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens a further extension of the lines and the installation of new stations took place. The archeological treasures found during construction were carefully prepared and made accessible as exhibits in various stations of the public. Also in the station Syntagma.
