EOFULA was founded in 1969 to assist the local Hispanic community to overcome cultural, economic, social and language barriers.

The Spanish Senior Center was established in 1974 and provides daily hot lunches, recreational activities, counseling, transportation, health promotion, case management, educational classes, activities, employment, housing assistance, visits, calls, escort, Spanish/English translation, interpretation and legal services.

We are a non-profit organization, part of the D.C. Office on Aging Senior Center Network, a member agency of the United Way (#8903) and the United Planning Organization.

EOFULA's mission is crucial: to assist the Spanish speaking community of Washington, D.C. to overcome the language barriers and other limitations unique to the Latin American people, with special attention to critical community development areas such as education, health, welfare, housing, legal services, and employment. EOFULA aims at providing community residents proper aid and technical assistance in all these areas focusing especially on the senior population. It is crucial for us to lead positive social change to help people 60 and older, especially the most vulnerable, by delivering information, education and direct service to our communities and families. EOFULA programs could benefit you, your family, your friends and your neighbors when they are needed the most.

The rapid growth in our aging population presents new challenges. Many of our elderly are not prepared for their changing needs and face the loss of friends and family, unexpected physical challenges, dramatically reduced incomes-often alone and with inadequate emotional or financial support. Language barriers and culture differences are major challenges. Families are forced to make critical decisions about caring for a loved one under pressure, with little time, limited means or not enough information or help. But our senior community of Washington, D.C. in need do not have to live this way. In partnership with caring and concerned people like you, EOFULA is working to help more Latino seniors in our area age with independence, dignity and purpose. Since its founding, EOFULA has provided a variety of vital programs and services throughout our community with a common goal: to improve the experience of aging in community and to protect the most vulnerable of our elderly. We are proud that we have helped hundreds of senior Latino's and their families.
